My name is Dayla Hearon. This will be my 41st year in kindergarten! We have moved lots of times over the years but, I have always managed to find a kindergarten job each time. I love kindergarten children and Woodriver. In my spare time I enjoy reading, shopping and going to the beach with my family.
My family consists of my husband, my son, daughter-in-law and my two incredibly spoiled Boston Terrier puppies. My husband is the Director of the Human Performance Lab at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. My son is on faculty at UTSW Medical Center in Dallas, Texas conducting cardiovascular research on humans. I am a very proud mom! My daughter-in-law does medical research for Medtronics. My dogs play and sleep all day long. They keep me busy and entertained.
I graduated from Permian High School in Odessa, Texas. After high school, I attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. I earned my B.S. in Human Development as a Teacher of Young Children with a minor in Child Development. After years of teaching kindergarten, I decided to go back to Grad School to work on my Master's degree. I earned my M.S. Ed. from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. I am a certified Reading Specialist. I also hold my ESL and Gifted and Talented certifications.
I began teaching kindergarten in January of 1985 in Slaton, Texas. I taught there for 6 years before moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana so that my husband could attend LSU for his doctoral work. I taught kindergarten in Donaldsonville, Louisiana for 5 years. We then moved to San Antonio and I taught kindergarten for 5 years. Once again, we moved and I was hired to teach kindergarten in South Beloit, Illinois. I taught there for 7 years before we finally made our way back to Texas! I have been at Wood River in Calallen for the past 18 years. Hopefully, this will be my last school!
