    Course Description:  

    Physics is the study of the physical world. Everything around us can be described by using the tools of physics. In physics, you will use basic concepts, equations, and assumptions to describe the world.  

     

    Course Outline: 

    1st nine weeks Science Process, Kinematics (motion)   

    2nd nine weeks Newton’s Laws of Motion - Forces, 2 D Motion, Momentum and Energy  

    3rd nine weeks      Electromagnetism, Electricity  

    4th nine weeks Waves, Sound and Light, Quantum Physics   

     

    Classroom Rules: 

    1. Be in class and seated when the bell rings. 

    1. Bring all the required materials to class each day. 

    1. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 

    1. Respect yourself, your classmates, your teacher, and your school. 

    2.  

    Online expectations: 

    1. Students will participate daily. 

    1. Students will use schoology for daily agenda, assignments and tests.  

    1. Students have access to the McGraw Hill online textbook and platform via classlink  

    2.  

    Consequences: 

    1. Cheating will not be tolerated: Students will receive a grade of zero and a referral. 

    1. Tardiness –as per student handbook 

    1. Disruptions – First offense verbal warning, Second offense – student conference, Third offense – parent contact, repeated offenses – Office Referral 

    1. Cell phones are to be used for academic purposes. Violations can result in confiscation of the phone. Your phone is expected to be in your backpack pocket, not on your desk or in your cubby 

    1. Earbuds are not to be used in class. You are expected to be free of this device during lecture, labs, and any collaborative work. If in ear during these times, they will be confiscated.  

     

    Supplies: 

    • Binder with paper or folder and notebook to organize notes and labs 

    • Pencil/pen 

    • Recommend a scientific calculator, ruler, protractor 

    •  

    Classroom Expectations:  

    1. Students are to begin warm up activities each day that they enter class.  

    1. Cell phones should be placed in the pocket of your backpack or pants unless otherwise directed. You will put away your earbuds. Your phone or earbuds should not be visible during lectures. 

    1. Students will participate in note taking, notebook quizzes, lab activities, projects, and presentations throughout the year. 

    1. Homework and online assignments will be assigned throughout the grading periods. 

    1. Quarter test and semester exams will be administered. 

     

     

    Grading: 

    Cat. 1 - 20% -Daily Work- notebook, notebook quiz, evaluate assignments 

    Cat 2 - 30% - Lab Work

    Cat 3 - 50% - Major assessment- Projects, Reviews, quarter tests   

     

    Makeup Work Policy: 

    A student will be given as many days as he/she was absent to make up work. The student will receive a zero for work missed until it is completed. Long Term assignments (advanced notice of 10 or more days) should be turned in on the due date regardless of any absences during the extended assignment period. If a student is present when a test is announced, they should be able to take the test on the day of the test. If they are absent when the test is announced, students must schedule a makeup test. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check Schoology, meet with the makeup work assistant or another student in class, and see me before school or after school about your makeup work if further information is needed. You may pick up your missed work from the makeup work file in the rear of the room upon return  

    Tutorials are available daily from 8:00-8:30 for extra help and makeup work.

    SCIENCE LAB SAFETY CONTRACT 
     

    • I will act responsibly at all times in the laboratory. 

    • I will treat all lab equipment for the proper use and ensure to take care not to break the equipment.  

    • I will read and follow all instructions given in the lab procedures.  

    • I will keep my area clean in the laboratory. 

    • I will wear my safety goggles and protective clothing when necessary and at all times during the laboratory. 

    • I know where the fire extinguisher and fire blanket is located have been trained in its use. 

    • I will immediately notify the teacher of any emergency. 

    • I know who to contact for help in an emergency. 

    • I will tie back long hair, remove jewelry, and wear shoes with closed ends (toes and heels) while in the laboratory. 

    • I will never work alone in the laboratory. 

    • I will not take chemicals or equipment out of the laboratory without permission from the teacher. 

    • I will never eat or drink in the laboratory unless instructed to do so by the teacher. 

    • I will only handle living organisms or preserved specimens when authorized by the teacher. 

    • I will not enter or work in the storage room unless supervised by a teacher.
