CALALLEN ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES Dr. Lana Carr
Board PresidentBoard member, Dr. Lana Carr, was born and raised in Alice, Texas and has lived in Corpus Christi since 2002. A graduate of Texas A&M University College Station and University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Dr. Lana Carr came to our Northwest community after doing internship and residency training at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas. Dr. Carr and her husband, Jay, have owned and operated a business/medical practice in this community since 2002. She and her family are active members of River Hills Baptist Church. Dr. Carr was elected to the Board in November of 2012 and re-elected in November of 2020. She was elected to Board President in October of 2022. As a parent of three children who attend Calallen ISD schools, Dr. Carr is also a member of PTA at Wood River Elementary, Magee Elementary and Calallen Middle School. Her dedication to educational opportunities for students throughout the District is exemplified by her board member status with Calallen Education Foundation as well. She and her husband are highly aware of the importance of an excellent education and the need to invest in the children of our community in order to strengthen the future of our community, state and nation. She not only believes, but knows that children are our future and you cannot invest enough in them!
Mrs. Heather Luckenbach
Vice PresidentHeather Luckenbach was appointed to Place 1 by the Calallen ISD Board of Trustees in May of 2017 and elected Board Vice President in October of 2022. She was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, and has lived in the Calallen area since 1992. Heather graduated from Calallen High School and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Texas State University. She, and her husband Cody, have two children currently attending Calallen schools. Heather and her family are members of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Corpus Christi and an active Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Area Go Texan committee member. Heather is a proud Wildcat and believes in providing the youth of our community the very best education. She supports the administration, faculty and staff of the district that ultimately drives the mission of commitment to excellence-success for all.
Mrs. Lori Jo Walker
Board SecretaryLori Jo Walker was elected to Place 2 on the Calallen ISD Board of Trustees in November of 2014. Born and raised in Portland, Texas, Mrs. Walker has lived in Corpus Christi since 1996. Lori earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History from Texas A&M in 1992; currently she and her husband Dennis own and operate successful businesses in the Corpus Christi area. Her former professional education experience includes teaching English at Calallen Middle School. CMS now welcomes her as an active volunteer at the campus in addition to being past President of Calallen Middle School PTA. Mrs. Walker and her family are active members of Grace United Methodist Church where Lori serves in the children/youth departments. Lori believes that Calallen is a great community that shares the common goal of excellence in education for all our students. Although the Texas educational system faces many challenges, she believes that with strong teaching staff and administrators, Calallen ISD can persevere in continuing to help our students achieve success!
Mr. Royce Cameron
TreasurerJ. Royce Cameron was appointed by the Calallen ISD Board of Trustees in July of 2015 to fill a vacancy for Place 7. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mr. Cameron has lived in the Corpus Christi area since 1968. He attended Tuloso Midway High School and has established a stellar reputation as a self-employed entrepreneur. As an independent businessman, he brings a level of expertise to the Board with his keen sense of business and development. He and his educator wife, Brenda, have two children currently in Calallen schools. Mr. Cameron remains active in the community by volunteering his time with the Buccaneer Commission, Nueces County Football League Board and Northwest Pony League Board. As a parent, Mr. Cameron enjoys being involved in his children’s education. As a Board Member, he strives to help all students get the best education possible in order for them to achieve their goals and dreams. Mr. Cameron was re-elected to the Board in November of 2020 and appointed Treasurer in October of 2022.
Mr. Jerry Batek
Board Member
A native of Corpus Christi, Texas and a 1989 graduate of Calallen High School, Jerry Batek was elected to the Board of Trustees in November of 2020. Mr. Batek continued his post-secondary education by pursuing a BBA in Accounting from Sam Houston State University (1994). He continued post-graduate studies at South Texas College of Law and was awarded a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1998. Mr. Batek has served the Cities of Corpus Christi and Portland as a Municipal Court Judge and is a practicing attorney with Batek & Robinson, LLP. His devotion to community involvement is not only evidenced through his legal pursuits, but also by his volunteer service to Oil Belt Little League (Vice President) and Calallen Education Foundation (Board Member). Mr. Batek is committed to being highly involved in the decision making process that will affect not only students, but also the direction our Calallen community and beyond.
Mr. Edward Wells
Board Member
Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and educated in Calallen schools, Edward D. Wells was elected to the CISD Board of Trustees in November of 2022. A proud 2003 graduate of Calallen High School, Mr. Wells pursued studies in Criminal Justice at Southwest Texas Junior College and Del Mar College. His studies provided the foundation for his current law enforcement career, including previous service with the Nueces County Sheriff’s Department. Even though Mr. Wells law enforcement career took his family to various parts of Texas. He and his family returned to Calallen in 2016. Since that time, he has immersed himself into the Calallen community by serving as a Sunday school teacher/youth volunteer at his church, coaching and serving as a board member for Oil Belt Little League. Active in multiple aspects of Calallen schools, Mr. Wells has volunteered with PTA, Watch Dog Program, Calallen FFA and its Alumni Association, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also currently serves on the Regional Board for Still Water Sports Camp. His love for Calallen schools and passion for FAMILY drives his desire to seek the best educational opportunities for all students, including his own three children. He desires to ensure all children are educated in a safe, secure environment and believes his law enforcement background will be valuable to assist in evaluating and implementing safety policies and procedures within our schools. Mr. Wells understands the value of extracurricular activities and their importance to student achievement. He believes that Calallen ISD’s reputation and legacy of superior academics and athletics are essential to students' overall success. In addition, Mr. Wells strives to enhance communication and transparency with parents and the community, because working together, Calallen will continue to succeed.
